Brett Noel brings a combination of experiences to World through a Lens. For one, he draws from and connects to his background as a multidisciplinary artist (photographer, musician, and poet) with his previous work as a therapist, where he worked with the powers of the arts to gain insights. His attempt to communicate what and how WTL works, draws from his background as a college teacher in most undergrad courses in psychology. For thirteen years he taught at Marist College, Mount Saint Mary at West Point, and Ulster Community College. In a big way, WTL is influenced by his experiences with various folks who live close to the land from places around the world, This includes some time with peoples from the Ute tribe, Navajo and Lakota peoples. Interwoven in the preparation of these steps , are insights about earth/human relations as disseminated by such folks as Dr. Arnold Mindell, Dr. Joanna Macy, John Seed, Dr. Michael Cohen and others. Moreover, these types of walks also grew out of the research around the world and inspiration of Dr. Jeff Kelton, and the both of us offering what we called "Dreamwalks" in the Catskill Mountains of New York. Another contributing mountain of inspiration stems from the late mythologist, Joseph Campbell. He served as one of his audio/visual aids for seven years. When talking about the earth, Campbell asked us to consider that "When you see the earth from the moon (referring to the astronaut, John Glenn description when in a rocket hoovering above earth), you don't see any divisions there of nations or states..." Brett is an avid woodsman, married, and has two grown daughters. |
